Free Lyon Twp. Kite Festival set for Saturday, June 1

It will be a day of free and fun activities for the whole family when kids and kite aficionados of all ages are invited to the Lyon Twp. Kite Festival that will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2013 from 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. at James Atchison Memorial Park in New Hudson. A sight to see will be nationally award wining kite flyers as they showcase their top talents at the Kite Festival. While admission is free, attendees are asked to bring a non perishable donation whether it is a canned good or box of oatmeal. All food donations will be collected for Active Faith who provides long term and temporary assistance to those who have fallen on difficult times.

The Lyon Township Kite Festival will offer a variety of events in additional to the kite flying. Lyon Township Kite Festival Chairman Jim Chuck has announced that he will be adding live musical entertainment to the festival this year. “I am pleased to have hired Blaine

Fowler’s band, BFE – The Blaine Fowler Experience to perform at 1:00 p.m. and again at 2:00 p.m. on June 1.” For those wondering if this is the same Blaine Fowler from the “Blaine and Allyson in the Morning” show on 96.3 WDVD in Detroit , it is. Fowler is proud to be a top rated DJ in the morning and by afternoon the lead of a rockin’ band.  Blaine will also serve as the Lyon Township Kite Marshall for the June 1 event, following a rich history of television on-air talent who were tapped as Kite Marshall the previous two years.

Also new this year is a kid’s interactive workshop that will be provided by Lowe’s, the home improvement store. Additional activities include a kite drop with prizes, an inflatable water balloon castle called “Water Wars,” that is the only one in Michigan, a petting zoo, new and used classic car display by the “Spark Plugs” for auto enthusiasts, face painting, cartoon characters, old fashioned jump rope making, GPS treasure hunt, caricature artist, Zumba dance, and Karate demonstration and more … Special prizes will be awarded to participants throughout the day. Numerous food vendors will also be selling their delicacies all day at the festival.

A new attraction to the Lyon Township Kite Fest is the new “Home Builders Showcase” tent.  Area home builders will be on hand to display some of the many new houses being built in the Lyon Township Area.  After Lyon Township was recently named the fastest growing community in OaklandCounty, we are very proud to welcome the home builders to our event.
Kites of all shapes and sizes will fill the air at Oakland County ’s best kept secret for kite flying – the bluff-top park that overlooks the beautiful hamlet area of New Hudson. Don’t know how to fly a kite? You can learn at the Kite Festival to launch, fly and land kites. If you don’t use a free kite kit provided by the festival – you can purchase one at the Kite Festival.
The Lyon Township ’s James Atchison Memorial Park is located along the I-96 corridor at Exit 155, behind the Lyon Twp. Hall at 58000 Grand River Ave. in New Hudson.
